Well, January has been and almost gone and I have spent the first weeks of 2012 developing a brand new collection of jewellery and paperwares. The whole process has been a bit of departure for me. Previously I have dipped in and out of the design process and not really thought in joined- up writing, but this collection sees me going back to my design-degree roots and trying to do it (almost) properly.

So to celebrate, I thought I'd share it with you, my loyal followers...

1. random doodling on a scrap of card

2. developing a palette

3. shapes, patterns and shrink plastic testers

4. the first batch of samples - printed and shrunk

5. developing geometric shapes and colour combinations

6. the first batch of finished neckpieces. On silver and gold plated chain

7. finished earring, necklace and brooch samples

Well its been some time since I did this blogging thing so thought I would update you on the wanderings of the Pigeon this festive season...

My suitcases are fit to burst and I am off tomorrow to set up shop at the Country Living Christmas Fair at the SECC in Glasgow. Come and visit me at Stand G17 and buy a few Christmas pressies.
17th - 20th November.

...Then next in the calendar is Bunty and Bella's Big Boutique Bash at the Maggie's Centre in Dundee. This is an all-star creative event featuring the wonderful Yoke, Hilary Grant, HelloJenuine, Jane Gowans, Nikki McWilliams and many more. Come and eat cake, buy stuff and admire the beautiful building.
Sunday 4th December, 12-4pm

...then onto Dundee Contemporary Arts to take part in a workshopping extravaganza featuring a Pigeon Shrinkie workshop, Syrah Jay's Felting and Bunty and Bella's Printing. All in one day! Book early at the DCA to avoid disappointment...

The Speediest Ever Pigeon Pop Up

Never one to sit quietly in the nest, Lovely Pigeon has opened her most impromptu Pop Up yet. The idea only formed in my head last week and on Tuesday we opened a small but perfectly formed shop in sunny sunny Anstruther. Alongside the usual Pigeon wares you can find featured makers like Verity Keniger, Take the Proverbial, Mrs Booth, Claire McVinnie and Kate Pickering.

Pigeon Pop Up is open for 4 whole weeks so you have until the 18th September to get down to the seashore.

We are at 27 Shore Street, Anstruther and open every day.

Can i recommend this folks... Lovely Pigeon will be flogging her wares alongside some other creative types at the Big Boutique Bash on Sunday 28th August. The event will take place at The Maggie's Centre, Dundee between 12-4. Even if you dont feel the need to spend your hard earned cash, its well worth a visit just to admire the amazing Frank Gehry architecture and eat some BiBi's bakery cupcakes.

Lovely Pigeon would like to invite you all along to Treat, a pop-up shop organised by Fife Contemporary Art and Craft. The shop will showcase more than 30 makers in jewellery, ceramics, wood, textiles, glass, lightening and more as well as a whole lot of work from Pigeon Towers.

I will be opening the Lovely Pigeon Studio this weekend and next as part of East Neuk Open Studios. This is no mean feat given the recent state of my workspace but I have been squirrelling away over the past couple of days to make it all shipshape.

I will be exhibiting (and selling) all the usual Pigeon loveliness including some brand new Mr and Mrs Pigeon mugs, Zoo tea towel and Pigeon's 'cut-make-play' Circus.

Lovely Pigeon Presents "A Right Royal Pop Up".

The Pigeon is back with the next pop up project. We will once again be taking over the Murray Library in Anstruther to showcase (and flog) the work of over 50 designers, makers and musicians.

A Right Royal Pop Up will run from the 28th April - 9th May to celebrate the marriage of our future king and the bearded wonder that is Fence Record's Homegame Festival.

To celebrate, the Pigeon is hosting an exhibition entitled "Beards and Tiaras" and we would like you to submit your ideas. Here's the lowdown...

1. You may submit one piece of work on the theme "Beards and Tiaras"
2. Your piece of work can be in any media BUT must be A5 in size
3. the pigeon's selection panel will handpick 25 pieces of work for the exhibition
4. If selected, your work will retail for £25 and Pigeon will take 25% of the sale price
5. Please send up to 3 jpeg images of your artwork to kirsty@lovelypigeon
6. the deadline for initial submission is 10th April
7. finalists will be announced on 15th April

Exhibition at the Byre Theatre

I will be exhibiting some of my lino prints and illustrated jewellery at the Byre Theatre in St Andrews between the 8th September - 2nd October. The exhibition has been organised by the lovely people at East Neuk Open Studios and will feature prints, paintings, etchings, textiles and jewellery by East Neuk artists and makers.

craft sunday at the DCA

Lovely Pigeon spent a jolly Sunday afternoon with twenty crafty ladies showing them the ins and outs of button jewellery. As part of Dundee Contemporary Art's Craft Sunday programme I delivered a five hour (yes five hour!) buttoning workshop. Much tea was sipped, many biscuits eaten and early Christmas pressies made. My crafters went home with brooches, necklaces, hairbands and bracelets.

There are some really interesting workshops coming up soon like origami jewellery and I have been invited back to do some illustrated jewellery making in December. For more info and to book go to the DCA website.

I will be giving a button workshop at Dundee Contemporary Arts this Sunday 29th August from 12-5. I will (hopefully) take you through the ins and outs of button jewellery and accessories, including fascinators and brooches.

Tickets are £15 and include all your materials plus tea, biscuits and a jolly good natter.

Sadly the HaarShop is now closed and back to its sad, lonely self. It has been the best work week I have ever had and we have had so much lovely feedback from everyone who visited (and spent lots of money).

Highlights of the week...
1. buying a beautiful 1960's cream wool coat from the vintage rail
2. almost selling out of Jane Smallcombe's gorgeous appliqued brooches (well done Jane!)
3. sad-eyed bears looking longingly from an old school desk (and then finding new homes)
4. getting featured in Saturday's Scotsman magazine - fame at last
5. going to the bank every morning
6. patchworking workshop on Saturday morning
7. inspector tapehead playing in the shop
8. jack magic stunning us with card tricks

and the lowlights...
1. sore feet
2. multiple hangovers
3. having to close at 6 even though the punters kept on coming
4. that final sunday feeling

Massive thanks go to everyone that has made the HaarShop what it was... and remember to watch this space as I am already hatching a new plan.

It started off with a grotty empty room... all we could do was drink red wine and ponder....

...we worked long into the night

...and finally it all came together!

Well we have officially popped up and business is booming! So much positive feedback, sales are surpassing my biggest predictions, the public are demanding a Christmas pop-up, we have been invited to pop up in Dundee... all is good in HaarShop land.

I couldn't have done it though without the help of so many people - Pete, Esther, Alice, John, Kate, all you lovely artists and makers, my kids (sorry you haven't seen me for weeks!). Thanks so much x

Mr Pigeon has been hard at work designing a poster for HaarShop - a pop up shop and creative extravaganza brought to you by yours truly, the lovely pigeon, in collaboration with King Creosote and the Fence Collective.

Haarshop is the creative hub of Fence's Haarfest festival which runs from the 14th-22nd August. We will be showcasing work by some of Scotland's best artists, designers and makers (and a few invited friends from South of the border) - watch this space...

You can also catch free acoustic sessions from the likes of King Creosote, The Pictish Trail, Adem and Meursault; electronic shenanigans from Found and Dr John Rogers and co; songwriting and patchwork workshops (not at the same time), photography and live art and theatre installations.

I am now preparing for the Pittenweem Arts Festival which will take place in the very beautiful fishing village from the 6th-15th August. You will find me in the bakery on the High Street (still open and selling the best scones I have ever tasted) (venue 11) so please pop in for a pie and a print or perhaps a bridie and a brooch...

The Fence Collective will be making an appearance at the church hall on Tuesday the 10th so worth a daytrip for fish and chips, sea air, art and music. Hope to see some of you there....x

I have packed my bags, picnic hampers and suitcases, the bunting is made, the tea-cups are sparkling and I am off to my first festival of the year (well I will be in a couple of weeks- after a week or two of Italian sun). Lovely Pigeon will be taking flight to the Big Tent on 23rd July for a weekend of craft workshops, local food, (some) good music, good friends and perhaps a flagon or two of real ale.

I will be selling my wares and providing some crafty distractions (button and bunting workshops) for the creative and creatively-challenged alike.

Tickets are still available and I reckon the sun will shine so if you fancy it check out the Big Tent website for more info. Would be dandy to see you there! x

I came across a big box of gorgeous vintage teatowels at the auction house recently. (These 2 cushions nearly never made past my own sofa.) Kitschy florals, maps and lifeboats still to come...

This weekend was the Fence Collective's Homegame 7 right here in sunny Anstruther - 3 days of ale-swilling, folk music and late nights in my local village halls.

Highlights of the weekend include Love Stop Repeat being my lovely house guests and singing whilst I cleaned my teeth on Sunday morning, The Unthanks clog dancing on Saturday night, my 7 year old daughter dancing on the bar whilst watching the marvelous Pictish Trail, the spinach and ricotta rolls by our local baker, Findo Gask acoustic set, King Creosote's never-to-be-released-album set Mama Casino's Scottish trolley of cheese, oatcakes, pickle and whisky, a group of kids (mine included) selling people chipmunk names for charity !?!?

Thanks Fence... much fun had by all.
